I wanted pupils to learn how to calculate the surface area of 3D shapes, building on their prior knowledge of area for 2D shapes.
That's a clear learning objective. I can see from the transcript that you did indeed build on prior knowledge — you spent the first part recapping 2D areas before introducing surface area concepts.

You brought out the 3D shapes from the box and used them to help pupils visualise the concept. That tactile element can really help make abstract ideas more concrete.

How would you describe your general approach to helping pupils grasp new ideas?

    The Mastery Arc

    Three steps. Fifteen minutes.
A coaching conversation grounded in your actual lesson.

    01

Record the lesson as it happens.

Any phone or microphone. Audio only — no camera, no student faces captured. Teachers and students stop noticing the microphone within minutes. Upload when the lesson ends. Transcription is immediate.

    02

    Aristotal analyses the transcript.

Aristotal reads the full lesson with timestamped evidence: wait time, questioning quality, instructional clarity, SEND responsiveness, teacher-to-pupil talk ratio. It identifies a student-focused goal grounded in what actually happened.

    03

    The coaching conversation begins.

A private chat interface. The coach knows the lesson, the research, and the teacher's previous sessions. Ten to fifteen minutes. Private, on-demand, and free from observation pressure. An action step. A mastery goal. A progress record updated.

    Rehearsal Mode

Build muscle memory for your hardest classroom situations.

Before a difficult meeting with a staff member, before a parent complaint escalates — Aristotal lets you rehearse. Describe the scenario. Aristotal adapts its role. You practise until the conversation feels manageable.

    • Role-play any classroom scenario — disruptive student, disengaged Year 10, challenging SEND interaction
    • Leaders use it to prepare for difficult staff conversations and parent meetings
    • Builds genuine muscle memory — the response becomes instinctive, not rehearsed in the moment
    • Completely private. Practice as many times as needed.
    Start a Rehearsal

Describe the classroom scenario you want to practice. I'll adapt my role based on your description.

Be specific about the person, their behaviour, and the context for a more realistic rehearsal.

For MAT CEOs and Trust Leaders

Your teaching quality is only as good as your weakest coaching conversation. Aristotal's Schoolwide Dashboard gives you aggregated, anonymised intelligence across every school in the trust — which departments are building habits, where the same challenge keeps appearing, and where coaching engagement is thin.
